NutritionNutrition:
life process by which an organism obtains and processes materials for its use Autotrophs: (producer) make their own food by the process of photosynthesis (plants and algae) Heterotrophs: (consumer) can’t make their own food (animals) EnergeticsCellular Respiration
The process by which CELLS convert GLUCOSE into ATP Glucose + O2 --> 36ATP + H2O + CO2 Fermentation (anaerobic respiration)
Process by which cells convert Glucose into ATP when Oxygen is not present. There are 2 types of fermentation, Alcoholic and Lactic Acid. ATPThink of ATP as a loaded mousetrap, just waiting to snap and release energy. When a P (phosphate) is released, energy is also released and ADP is left. Respiration is used to reset the mousetrap (put the P back on) and this cycle continues.
Make a bond- store energy -buying a bank bond saves your money for a later date Break a bond- release energy -cashing in a bond puts money in your hand Why oxygen?
Oxygen is the final electron acceptor at the end of the electron transport chain of aerobic respiration. In the absence of oxygen, only a few ATP are produced from glucose. In the presence of oxygen, many more ATP are made. |
